BARBARA ANN SMULSKI DOWJAT  
Barbara was born July 10, 1930 in New Britain, CT and passed away peacefully into the arms of God on January 14, 2016. Barbara leaves her daughters, Pamela LoCascio (Paul, deceased) of Temecula, CA, Mary McMillen (John) of North Potomac, MD, Barbara Hein (Lewis, deceased) of San Diego, CA, Kathryn Marienau, San Diego, CA and Diane Hearn (David) of Germantown, MD; her sisters, Carol Parziale of Bristol, CT and Christine Dureiko (Glenn) of Irvine, CA; and brother, Peter Smulski (Joanne) of New Britain, CT. She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her beloved son, Mark Andrew. Barbara graduated from New Britain High School in 1948 and went on to get her nursing degree at Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She married Richard (Dick) Dowjat on September 6, 1952 and raised six children. In 1962, the family moved to Tustin, CA. She returned to nursing at St. Joseph''s Hospital in Orange, CA. Upon relocating to Maryland, Barbara continued an exceptional nursing career as manager of surgical services at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center until her retirement in 1999 to Germantown, MD. Barbara was extraordinary in finding her passionate purpose and living it. If ever there was someone who beautified life, it was she.Visitation at Mother Seton Catholic Church, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd., Germantown, MD 20874 on Monday, February 1, 2016 from 10:30 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment All Souls Cemetery.
