I worked as a government contractor at U.S. Customs.I was a Computer Operator being trained by a team from Andrews AFB. The guard at the front desk said there is a lady who works here with the same last name as yours and y'all might be cousins. I said the next time you see her give a call. He said she leaving the building so I ran outside and there she was. I said your last name Whiting and she said yes and I said me too. Barbara slowly turned around and smiled at me. I said I'm Paula Whiting and she said her name was Barbara. I gave her mine and my aunt's information because she knows the family tree. I saw her a week later and Barbara said we were family. That's how I met my cousin Barbara Whiting. Barbara will be truly missed. Loved always, from Paula (twin) Whiting

To Barbara's dear son, sister and grandkids
Am so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. As a fellow member of the D.C legal community, I know of the contributions Barbara made. She was a role model. I didn't hear about her passing or funeral arrangements in time to attend, otherwise I would have been at the services.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
May you find comfort in knowing that her's was a life well lived.

Jeffrey and Naomi.... words cannot express my initial shock then absolute sadness as I realizaed what Donna Lewis had shared.
Immediately my thoughts of my initial meeting"COOKIE"who as I was a beginning freshman at Hampton Institute(now Hampton University)Need I tell you she was vibrant fashionable gregarious and acted unlike us timid unsure freshmen of Virginia Hall. She and her cousin Cynthia quickly became friends from across the hall.
Whenever I visited the DC area we always found time to visit or chat.
Over 16 years ago she and Naomi visited with me in VA as I we proudly welcomed the 1st Granddaughter Ashley.
I say all this to say I'm saddened to learn of Barbara's death but as you read my account of our friendship it shows I have memories which span several years.
Please know I would love to be present for the services.. my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Dearest Jeffrey and Naomi,
I was greatly saddened to learn of the loss of your Beloved Mother and your Beloved Sister. My Aunt Helen informed me of your Loss today. I want U to know how very much I adored and cherished your Mother & Sister for her incredible Style, Intellect, Grace and Incredible Personality ! From the time I moved next door to Your Family, upon the loss of my Aunt's Husband, Uncle Bill, there was a blending of our Families. My Mother asked me to stay w/ Helen during her time of Grief. As U know, my stay turned into years. I grew into adulthood living next Door to your Family. Your Mother became a Treasured friend of mine. I always lived her upbeat and enthusiastic Talks. Her self assured and positive demeanor was a style to be admired. I lived her outgoing and positive personality. Her Brilliance was very apparent. And her Laugh..... I loved her Laugh! She always had some words of Wisdom and some insightful advice to offer. Without a doubt, she would share her wisdom and the leave the situation on an upbeat stance. I loved her positive and upbeat demeanor. I learned a lot from her. She loved You! She loved Naomi ! She displayed a zest for life and an optimism that ensured that she was looking forward to the next day that was forthcoming. Since moving to California, I still missed living next door to her. I loved to hear her stories that she shared with me about you. She was so very proud of you. After becoming a Mother, it enhanced my outlook on how I viewed my Daughter. I felt that I was as proud of my Daughter, because I carried an enthusiasm about her, much as your Mother carried and shared her Love & enthusiasm about you. She was indeed, an Incredible, smart and Lively Woman. She was a Lovely Role Model. She was Independent, Self Assured, Brilliant, Funny and Enthusiastic about Life.
She was an Excellent Role Model. She will be greatly missed. My Aunt Helen enjoyed your Mother's independent Spirt and Intellectual exchanges. In many ways, they were very similar. It was a great match. Who could ask for more from a dear neighbor.... It was Great ! After You left Washington to pursue your Career Path, she was so very proud !
I knew how much You Loved her. Now that I have a grown daughter, I appreciate your Mother for being a Role Model for me. I have thought of you often. We have a Connection. As U may know, I lost my husband some years ago. Hence, your Mother proved to be a Model of how I would move forward in a positive manner after my Loss. On another note, I acquired a wonderful Cousin from my marriage. That Cousin is Drew Hyde. Drew's Dad, Dr HYDE, was my Husband's Uncle. Drew is one of my best Buddies and my Daughter's dear Cousin. Drew and I spoke today about You and the Loss of your Beloved Mother. We discovered years that we had a connection through you. St Alban's was a Great Place! I will let him know that I have tried to contact you. Drew has been a dear friend and supportive to my Daughter since her Dad died. He and his wife make our Family a very pleasant Circle. As an only child, I'm very fortunate to have Family here on the West Coast. So Drew is like a Cousin/Uncle to Alessandra. Well U have probably tired of reading this, at this point. Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. Also letting U know Drew & his Family are thinking of you. If you care to stay in touch, please do not hesitate. Give your Aunt Naomi my Love & Warmest Regards. Stay in touch. It is like Family. If U need to say Hello, please do not hesitate. Please know that you are Loved. Please know that I loved and admired your Lovely Mother.

Jeff and Naomi:
I say the words offering condolences and sympathies but none of it seems real yet.
Fifty-six years and counting of friendship and family love learning of Barbara's passing was the last thing I expected to hear. How can I adequately express the love or the loss. Fifty-six years of sharing with each other our marriages, our children, having careers, losing our parents and other loved ones. And through it all Barbara's was unwavering and steadfast.
Barbara left us a legacy of her wisdom, passion and caring for others. She absolutely and unconditionally loved Jeffrey, Naomi, Elijah and Juno.
Jeffrey.....Naomi....our family.....we love you more.

Always,
Aunt Gloria and Kimberly forever

Whiting-Wright Family:

I'm sorry to hear about Barbara passing. I lost my mother 10 years ago and now that Barbara is gone; it's like losing a mother all over again. We would be on the phone for hours talking about the family tree, Jeffrey and his kids and my family members. I met Barbara, Naomi and Jeffrey 31 years ago. I'm really going to miss her.

Love & Prayers to the Family.

Jeffery and Naomi,
I send my deepest sympathy for the loss of Barbara. As a GWAC member, I have known and loved Barbara for over 30 years, working with her on many GWAC auctions. She was a force. She loved her son and her grandchildren. She very often shared stories of Elijah and Miss Juno. I will miss her and her stories. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
