Barry Loper Obituary
BARRY CARROLL LOPER
Barry Carroll Loper passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born August 8, 1930 in Port Jefferson, NY to parents Carroll and Helen (Dayton) Loper. He resided in North Bethesda, MD for most of his life.
Barry is survived by his son Bradley D. Loper of Rockville, MD, two daughters, Courtney L. Otenasek (Frank) of Baltimore, MD, and Adrienne L. Ketterman (Troy) of York, PA, and his brother Robert A. Loper (Ann) of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving Barry are his four grandchildren, Trent D. Ketterman, Blake W. Otenasek, Heath S. Otenasek, and Drue C. Otenasek. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Jean R. Loper.
Barry was a graduate of Port Jefferson High School, Class of 1948, Princeton University, Class of 1952, and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1958. While in high school, he was elected Class President and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boys Scouts of America. He was a member of the Princeton Glee Club and the Cloister Inn Eating Club. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956, including a tour in Korea.
Barry had a 33-year career with IBM, working in offices in Pennsylvania, New York and the Washington, DC metro area. He was an active member of the Princeton Club of Washington and served on the Princeton University Class of 1952 Executive Committee.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, 10701 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda, MD. The family will greet visitors before, as well as after, the service beginning at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Barry's honor.
