Beatrice Galos Fuchs

Beatrice Galos Fuchs, 100, of Washington, DC, died on November 23, 2022, in Bethesda, MD, after a remarkable life well lived.

Born on June 3, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Fuchs earned her law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1944 and later received her Master of Laws from George Washington University. Always a trailblazer, Mrs. Fuchs began practicing law at a time when women represented less than five percent of the legal profession. Early in her career, she served as a judge advocate general at Fort Meade. Subsequently she advocated for children in the D.C. family court, giving them a voice when no one else would.

Mrs. Fuchs' love of learning never faded. She taught herself real estate and the stock market and found success investing in both. She enjoyed attending shows at the Kennedy Center and discussing films and television. She relished conversations about politics—even, or perhaps especially, when others did not share her views.

Above all, Mrs. Fuchs adored her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Marvin Fuchs, and her sons, Dr. Daniel Fuchs and Jared Fuchs. Mrs. Fuchs is survived by her children: Deborah Cohen, Esq. (Robert), Dr. Thomas Fuchs (Susan), Dr. Henry Fuchs (Lisa), and Dr. Ephraim Fuchs (Rima). Survivors also include twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; to them, she was "Grandma Beats."

Family, friends, and neighbors will long remember Mrs. Fuchs for her sharp intellect, fierce independence, and wicked sense of humor. They will always cherish her trademark Beats-isms. "Come around when you can't stay so long" and "Don't take any wooden nickels."

Mrs. Fuchs was interred at King David Memorial Gardens on Monday, November 28. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support and the Daniel G. Fuchs Dartmouth College '73 Memorial Scholarship Fund. Service private.
