BERNARD LIEBLER Obituary

BERNARD LIEBLER "Bernie"
Bernie ("Please do not call me Bernard") Liebler was born in Bronx, NY in 1945 and passed away at his home in Oakton, VA on January 10, 2017. He was a proud alumnus of The Bronx High School of Science and received his B.S. from City College of New York. He continued post-graduate studies in physics at Stony Brook University. Although a native New Yorker and lifelong New York Giants fan, Bernie and his wife Bette moved to Virginia and proudly call it home.  A passionate scientist, Bernie spent the majority of his career at ADVAMED developing national and international standards used to ensure the safety and effectiveness of medical devices. His interests and passions were many and varied - he could consume books on any topic and recite facts back from memory; he had a passion for bluegrass and folk music, and played his heart out on his guitar, even when his fingers fumbled; he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, backpacking and exploring national parks with Bette; he was a student of photography and took thousands of photos as he and his wife traveled the world together. In retirement, he spread his excitement and love of science to children by volunteering with the Children's Science Center Lab in Fairfax. Bernie is survived by his wife Bette Greenspan; his sister Lila; his nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-niece and nephews.  His life will be celebrated at a private memorial. For those who wish, Bernie can be remembered through a donation to one of the many causes he supported: the American Civil Liberties Union, the United States Holocaust Museum Memorial or the Children's Science Center of Loudoun County.

Bernie will certainly be missed. My thoughts and prayers with the family. He was always great to work with and took the time to work with people new to standards.

Bernie was a dear friend. He was passionate in his work, shared strong opinions and was someone that you could have a good "disagreement" with but always ended with a laugh. He was missed when he left AdvaMed but will be missed even more now that he is gone. My best to his family.
