McDEVITT BOB McDEVITT March 26, 1966 ~ March 13, 2016 Bob McDevitt was born March 26, 1966 and grew up on Boston''s south shore. He graduated from Falmouth High School in 1984, lettering in winter track, and went on to earn a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Bob first got the political bug through his involvement in UMass'' Student Government. Following graduation he worked for former Massachusetts Attorney General Francis X. Bellotti''s 1990 gubernatorial bid, and shortly thereafter moved to DC to pursue a role in national politics. Bob launched RMM Consulting, Inc., and later Christensen McDevitt (CM-I), specializing in national political fundraising, grassroots organizing and campaign advance. Over the next 20 years, he served as a consultant to dozens of international and US Gubernatorial, Senate and Congressional campaigns. As a senior advance man for both the 1996 Clinton/Gore and 2000 Gore/Lieberman presidential campaigns, he traveled extensively with President Clinton and Vice President Gore on Air Force One and Two, going to Russia, Jordan, Egypt, and among other destinations, Belgium. As described by one colleague, "On trips for the White House, Bob was the fixer, the guy who could make it happen when no one else could. He loved politics and presidential advance because of the challenge and the people, especially the people, and he was as comfortable in Moscow, or Amman, or Rome as he was in Boston because he never knew a stranger." Bob''s professional and personal journeys took him to over 20 countries, including a two-week vacation turned six-month adventure in Bali, Australia, and a presidential campaign in Nicaragua. A published author and speaker on political fundraising, Bob was a quoted expert in nationally syndicated print publications and, in 1998, was named one of politics'' "Rising Stars" by Campaigns and Elections magazine. He mourned the 1986 season as much as any other in Red Sox Nation, but in 2004 was sitting by Red Sox owner John Henry in St. Louis when the team''s pitcher, Derek Lowe, landed squarely in his lap and the Sox won their first world championship in 86 years. Bob''s enormous passion for Boston was always on full display, from his claims of being a "southie" and his proudly-proclaimed 100% Irish heritage, to his sports memorabilia collection, Standells Dirty Water ringtone and ancient unwashed lucky Red Sox hat. At heart, he was a true Bostonian. Bob will be remembered as larger than life, not only because of his 6''4" frame, but because of his gregarious and generous nature. Bob didn''t have acquaintances - once he knew your name, you were a friend, as evidenced by the political "Brat PAC" that have been his crew for 25 years. An entrepreneur at heart, Bob turned his love of dogs into a side business that developed into a full time passion in recent years, including his infamous "Dogs Against Romney" campaign. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 26 in Washington, DC on what would have been his fiftieth birthday. For more information, write/email
