BRIAN AMES Obituary

BRIAN WESLEY AMES (Age 60)
Beloved father, brother and son, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2017, at his home in Bethesda, MD surrounded by his loving family. Brian worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1986 until 2008 and then as an independent development consultant. He loved his travels far and wide and was profoundly committed to making a difference wherever he went. His optimism was eternal, his enthusiasm for life infectious and his sense of humor sublime. He was hard to resist when he turned on the charm and put on "the Brian Ames show," as he called it. He brought humor even to the halls of the IMF! He was a trusted colleague and friend, a loving son and brother, and an absolutely devoted father. Brian was born in La Mesa, CA on April 2, 1957, attended Claremont Men's College (1979), and HBS and the Kennedy School (1985). He succumbed to brain cancer after a 17-month battle, without ever losing hope that he would beat the odds. He is survived by his children Julian (27), Andre (24) and Angela (19); his father, Harold P. Ames; his sister, Susann McMahon and his brother, Alan Ames. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Brian's life on January 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 6301 River Rd., Bethesda. The family requests that contributions be sent to the National Brain Tumor Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or V Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Thanks to everyone who posted their memories and thoughts about Brian. I did not know that this page existed. The memories are still very fresh and the pain still sharp. Our children and I remember Brian every day through teary eyes which are invariably followed by smiles thinking about something goofy he did or said. Miss you Brian
