Brion Sumser Obituary

Sumser

Brion DAVID Sumser

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Brion David Sumser, of Fairfax, VA, who passed away peacefully on July 25, 2022, at the age of 66. Brion was born to Carol and Raymond Sumser, Jr. in Honolulu, HI. An avid lover of sports, he was often found cheering on the George Mason Patriots, watching a game on tv, or at the Eagle Bank Arena. Anyone who knew Brion was ready for one of his quick-witted jokes, and for anyone who truly knew him, his love of Les Misérables and opera music. His generosity to so many people became a highlight of his life. Brion Sumser happily offered connections, jobs, a meal, and above all, friendship to communities and individuals alike.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Sumser, his brother John (Heather), his brother and sister-in-law, Michael (Chas) and Sally, his sister, Anne. His proudest accomplishment was his two beloved children, Sam (Meghan) and Maddie (Tony). He is also survived by the wonderful community of Brion's Grille, that for so many people, began as a restaurant, and ended as a home.

A celebration of life will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria on August 5, 2022 at 1 p.m. A reception to follow will be held in the "Green Room" under The Eagle Bank Arena at George Mason University.

Our deepest condolences to all of Brion's family especially his kids. Brion was larger then life and had such a huge impact on the local community. I worked there all throughout high school and learned so much from Brion and Terry. I met my wife working there and will always be thankful for the Grille brining us together. Rest in Peace Brion!

I was a classmate of Brion´s in grade school at OLGC and in high school at Bishop O´Connell. He was such a nice person and had such a nice smile. I remember chatting with him at our 30th high school reunion about this and that, but when he started talking about his kids he just lit up and told me how much he loved them! It really made an impression on me. I am so sad about his passing. It sounds like he touched many, many people in his life. Condolences to his mother and the rest of his family.

I have so many wonderful memories of Brion and his beautiful family. He was so funny and kind-hearted. I worked at Brions Grille as a hostess and enjoyed it. I made so many friends there. It wasn't just a restaurant it was a happy gathering place for so many. I know Brion put his heart and soul into that place and it showed. Had the privilege of seeing as his children grew up. He was so proud of Maddie and Sam. He always treated my family like his own. I was blessed to have known him and I will cherish my special memories of him. Fly with the Angels my friend until we meet again. I know you will be watching over Maddie, Sam Tony and Meghan. Send them a little sign once in awhile.

Maddie, Sam, Meghan and many others were always engaging us whenever we patronize Brion's Grille. Not to mention the amazing staff... Carlos, Chef Terry, a few Brians, and a host of others... Brion was a very kind and generous person. My daughter was married at the former MASON INN in 2011 and the day after their wedding we had brunch at Brion's Grille. Brion came over and congraluted the newlyweds then, sent over complimentary champagne for our party. He has always been extremely kind and generous. He will be deeply missed. My prayers and condolences go out to the family. May he rest in peace...

Brion was a true friend for over thirty years. We shared a love of Mason basketball, the hoopla around the Mason final four run in 2006 and supporting many causes within our community. I loved going into Brion's Brille and eating and talking with Brion about Mason, business and what he was thinking about changing to help grow his business. We will miss him. We will always remember Brion's Grille. Brion and family will be in our prayers.

I offer my condolences to the Sumser family! Brion was one the nicest and generous people I know! He had hired me to Dee-jay for the restaurant when he first purchased Brion´s Grille and he hired me to Dee-jay his first two New Years celebrations! Brion had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face! And I must state that the Brion´s Grille sampler on the menu was always my favorite menu item! Rest In Peace, Brion Sumser!!!!

Brion was an incredibly generous giving man, to the GMU, the Community, and his friends and family. His incredible heart, his quick witted jokes, will be missed. There will never be another! Brion did so much good for the Robinson HS community as well as GMU. Brion's Grille was one of our favorite restaurants for many years until it unfortunately went out of business. Loved that half price hamburger Tuesdays and the great Sunday brunch! Brion was a compassionate, understanding and forgiving man who tolerated my ID/ASD son's unusual behaviors when he visited the Grille. 66 seems way too young to be gone. I hope he is at peace now.

Thanks for all you did for the many friends and family who loved you. The time you spent with mom recently was priceless! I want one more chance to hear your voice, get a funny text and give you a hug. Life will never be the same "Swoony"
