Calvin Seville Obituary

Calvin Seville, 80, of Julian, PA, longtime owner of Whitey's Restaurant in Arlington, VA, passed away on November 24, 2025.
Born August 24, 1945, in Brunswick, Georgia, Calvin was the son of Anthony P. and Sarah E. Seville. He grew up in Northern Virginia, living in Arlington and Woodbridge from 1957 until retiring to Julian, PA in 2008.
Calvin enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965. He served first in Germany as a tank driver, then volunteered for Vietnam, where he was an infantryman and later a helicopter door gunner. He returned home in December 1967 and completed his reserve service in 1971. For his courage and dedication, Calvin received numerous honors, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters.
In September 1968, Calvin met Linda Nitschke at a pet store in Arlington. They married the following April and shared 56 years together. Calvin often joked that he met Linda at a pet store and had been "in the doghouse ever since." Together they built a life filled with love, humor, and lasting memories.
Calvin worked as a courier for the Special Warfare Lab, a cab driver, and later a crane operator. He had a gift for mechanical projects and was always ready to help friends and neighbors. He also taught himself to cook and became known for his gourmet meals and creative cakes. In 1977, Calvin and Linda purchased Whitey's Restaurant in Arlington, which they operated with great success. Whitey's became a local landmark, earning national recognition and hosting many well-known visitors. Calvin also served as President of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Restaurant Association and took part in lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill for the National Restaurant Association, including hosting congressional leaders at Whitey's.
Calvin is survived by his wife Linda; siblings Elaine Seville, Christine Seville Sherrer (Robert), John Quinn Seville Sr., and Stephen Seville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael, sister-in-law Lynne, and nieces Marion Elizabeth "Lisa" Lemon and Michelle Seville Westerfield.
His family and friends will remember Calvin's steady generosity, his mechanical genius, and the joy he found in cooking and creating. He lived a life he deeply loved, and he was deeply loved in return.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 8, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
