Carl Morris Obituary

MORRIS, CARL E. (Age 73)

Of Reston, VA died on August 27, 2004 at his home. He was born on April 11, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Evelyn R. Morris. Carl was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In 1983, he joined the American Society of Newspaper Editors in Reston, VA. In Reston, he also was Executive Director of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Minority Media Executives. He has published the Morris Memo, a newsletter before he retired in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kelda L. Morris; two daughters, Karla A. Morris-Holmes and Anna K. Morris-Betts, both of St. Louis, MO; two sons, James E. Morris of St. Louis, MO and Benjamin P. Morris of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Charles. He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth W. Morris of Pittsburgh, PA; two stepsons, Donald M. Hickman and his wife, Lucretia of Ashburn, VA and Brian L. Hickman and his wife, Debbie of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother-in-law, Harold J. McCall of Pittsburgh, PA and a sister-in-law, Gladys Morris of Philadelphia, PA; and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at ADAMS GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA, where funeral services will be held on Friday, September 3 at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA.
