CATHERINE COKINOS DEVONEY "Ronnie" (Age 92)
On Sunday, December 8, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Edward Devoney, Jr.; mother of Alexis L. (Gunther) Stern and Steven E. and the late (Suanne Fedor) Devoney; grandmother of Julian and Mollie Stern and Eddie and Gregory Devoney. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) Friday, December 13 from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. I had two people reach out to me after seeing the memoriam picture in the paper. Which, of course, caused us to share a memory of "Ronnie." I have also been thinking a lot about her and her family as I thought about the COVID changes that would have affected their ability to visit her. This is also my last year teaching-and Ronnie was my first "boss" when I began my teaching career. I am nothing but grateful for all that she taught me. She was a dedicated advocate for the special education population. While we became anxious with her observations and recordings of our teaching, all of us (teachers) would say that her comments mattered and helped us. I also learned that if I did NOT want an observation at a given time, I could get out some messy project (finger painting), and Ronnie would quickly say, "I'll come back later."

Ronnie was such a positive influence in my life. She was "my boss" when I taught at MPAC, although she always laughed when I reminded her of that recently.
She was dedicated to the students and her teachers. Always making sure we were aware of how we could improve and make a difference.
