CHANNING JONES Obituary


CHANNING RUSSELL JONES  LCDR, USN  
Born September 1957 in Honolulu, Hawaii died January 26, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus Georgia following a valiant four-year battle with colon cancer.As part of a Navy family, he grew up in many places including San Diego, CA, Guam, Atlanta, GA, Villefranche-sur-Mer, FR, Boston, MA, Norfolk, VA and Mechanicsburg, PA before moving to Alexandria, VA in 1972. He graduated from Fort Hunt High School in 1975 and was an Eagle Scout. Upon graduation from Georgia Tech in 1979, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and earned his qualification as a Surface Warfare officer. After the Navy, he earned his Master's Degree in Management from Georgia Tech and a Masters in Computer Science from Columbus State University. He worked for AFLAC in Columbus, GA and various companies in Austin, TX.His love was flying. He was proud to earn his "wings" and have his own airplane.He is survived by his wife, Kristenia Jones of Columbus, GA; his parents, Commander Channing Jones and Ann Jones of Alexandria, VA; brother, Keith Jones and his wife, Donna of Doylestown, PA; and sister, Laurie Southard and her husband, Rick of Virginia Beach, VA.Inurnment, with Full Military Honors, will be at Arlington National Cemetery on December 20.ALOHAOur Beloved Rusty
