CHARLES AZZAM Obituary
Dr. Charles J. Azzam
Charles J. Azzam, MD of McLean, Virginia, passed away at the age of 67 of an unexpected acute illness on September 29, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Melissa, his son Andrew Azzam, MD (Naurin) of Boston, MA, and his siblings, Farid Azzam, MD (Barbara), Viviane Kafena, and Robert Azzam (Dina).Dr. Azzam was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and attended the French Faculte de Medicine. He completed his neurosurgical training at the George Washington University in 1986 and had been practicing neurosurgery in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area up until the time of his death. He was a warm, caring person, an excellent surgeon and was loved by his patients, colleagues, friends and family. Services will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, October 8, 2021. Visitation at 11 a.m., funeral service at 12 noon with burial to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. FairfaxMemorialFuneralHome.com

I am just learning of Dr. Azzam´s passing. He saved my life back in 2000 when I was becoming paralyzed as a result of spine complications from an old injury. Then he did further successful surgery 13 years later. He was a brilliant surgeon and a good man. God bless him. My deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.

Dr. Azzam, is a legend in my family and I am so sorry to learn of his passing he did brain surgery on me in April 1992 and my family, and I will always be grateful for him and his skills.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Azzam's passing . He was a great doctor. He performed neck surgery on me and I was looking for him for my son when I discovered this obituary. His expertise was well known! Our condolences.

I just learned today of Dr. Azzam's passing and am very saddened. He had operated on my neck in 2019 and on my spine in 2020. He had a wonderful caring attitude and will be missed.

I was referring a friend to Dr. Azzam, when I learned of his death. He performed two back surgeries on me 2004 and 2019 and he changed my quality of life for the better. A great surgeon who will surely be missed. My condolences to his family and working staff.

I just called to make a f/up appointment with Dr Azzam for a surgery he did in Jan of this year and learned of his passing. Dr Azzam was one of the nicest, most caring and talented surgeons I have ever dealt with. I know that he will be greatly missed! My prayers and blessings go out to his family and fellow patients!

I have had the honor of having Dr. Azzam (Charlie) as a mentor during our residency at George Washington University and a neurosurgical colleague and friend during our years of practice in northern Virginia.
His skills and wisdom were truly superior. Charlie had impeccable judgment, a quiet but firm temperament, and extraordinary neurosurgical skills.
He truly stood out as a highly respected neurosurgical leader of this medical community.
Charlie was so very well-liked and so greatly respected by his peers! We will all miss him greatly!!
Our Blessings and prayers go out to Melissa and his family. Charlie will certainly live on in all of our hearts.

I have worked with Dr. Azzam over 10 years. He was not just an amazing surgeon but was also very caring, loving and smart. I always depended on him for second opinion and he was always available to share his knowledge- I have so many beautiful memories with him and will cherish them all- thank you Dr.Azzam for being the best neurosurgeon and a friend- I will miss you forever and you will always have special place in my heart- Rest In Peace my friend- Remembering you and your loved ones today and always.
