Hi Mary and the kids as well. Ah, such good memories of our time in Guam with Charlie and the rest of the bunch. Especially when we went diving or shelling and I alone, I think, was scared to death while Charlie, Rick and the others were fearless!!! Foolish people those folks :-) I do recall in particular that Charlie bought a Kodak Retna high dollar single lense reflex camera. Along with the camera, a waterproof pouch that would permit underwater photography. Well, now for the rest of the story, Charlie went diving with camera in pouch, only to discover the pouch filled with water when he surfaced. We all felt so bad for him. The camera got replaced and life went on.
Be of good cheer though, Charlie was a fine fellow and for sure is in good hands now. D and Dick

Dear Mary,
I was truly saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. He was a true gentleman. I served in the Air Force with him in Guam, and never heard one unkind word from him on any subject. He will be missed. My prayers will be with you and his family during this sad time.

Looking back, part of the pain of Glenn and Siobhan moving back to Virginia was losing the contact we had with Glenn's family, including Charlie. When people are as inherently good and decent like Charlie, then a family can't be big enough or have enough branches or degrees of separation. I was reminded of his solidity and presence most recently when we went to your anniversary party. I'll be reminded of it the next time I sit with Audrey or Daniel. I know he is proud of the lives you live and the people you are. I am so sorry that he left so soon and only hope that the good memories can ease some of the pain you feel today.

I know I am writing for many in AEC, here at the University when I say Charlie will be missed. Charlie was a friendly, hardworking teammate. He was kind, and often went way out of his way to be helpful to those of us who needed information. Often we needed it NOW and Charlie would drop what he was doing to help us and our projects out. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

We delighted in knowing Charlie and we cherish knowing Mary, his beloved. We enjoyed visiting with Charlie and Mary over dinner at a local restaurant. I fondly recall an earlier autumn when Charlie and I helped a sick friend rake leaves. Charlie always had a warm smile and greeting for everyone. We miss him so! We convey our loving condolences to Mary.

Dear Mary,

So sorry to hear of your loss. As you know I was one of the 13 lieutenants that worked with Charlie in Guam in 1958-60. Ann and my thoughts are with you at this sad time.

I worked in the same department with Charlie at the University, and a few weeks after I started here, I ran into him at a talk at the Ethical Society. He was very welcoming to me at was then a new job, especially after only meeting me once at work. He will be missed.

I’m the team manager of the Bandits in the Fairfax Adult Softball Senior league.
I played on the field with Charlie as an opponent for at least 10 years.
When we were parked close to each other I would stop and talk with him either before or after games.
He was always easy going, very low key and even humble.
I will really miss not seeing Charlie at the ball field.
Sincerely.
