CHARLES A. CORCORAN

CORCORAN CHARLES ALLEN CORCORAN (Age 99) LTG (Ret.) Charles A. Corcoran, Lieutenant General, US Army, (Retired) of McLean, VA passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Born September 16, 1914 in Laredo, Texas, he was one of six children of Harry and Marie (McLaughlin) Corcoran. He graduated from Coraopolis High School, Coraopolis, PA in 1932. Charlie married Anna Mae (Nan) Love on September 14, 1941 at Camp Indiantown Gap, PA. General Corcoran's military career of 42 years began with his enlistment in the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1931 and ended with his retirement in 1973 while serving as Chief of Staff of the United States Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. Other key career assignments included Commander 25th Division Artillery, Korea; Chief Nuclear Planning, SHAPE Headquarters, Paris, France; Commanding General 5th Infantry Division, Ft. Carson, Colorado; Commanding General First Field Force and Chief of Staff MACV, Vietnam; and Secretary of the General Staff, Department of the Army, Washington DC. General Corcoran was also a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and the National War College. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict and served his country faithfully and well. General Corcoran's numerous military awards included the Distinguished Service Medal (3OLC), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, as well as foreign awards and decorations. After his military service, General Corcoran joined BDM Corporation, McLean, VA, serving as Vice President of Program Development at the time of his civilian retirement in 1980. Additionally, he served on the Board of Visitors, Defense Intelligence School, and was a consultant to the Inter Agency Advisory Council, Department of the Army. Charlie has been a resident of McLean, VA and a parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church since 1973. Charlie is survived by son, Charles Allen Patrick (Susan) of Parrish, FL; son, Timothy Michael (Patricia) of Oakton, VA; daughter-in-law, Linda Corcoran Chaney of Lebanon, TN; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved, Nan, his parents, siblings, John, Harry, James and Frank Corcoran and Alice Severing; and two beloved sons, Dennis Edward and Sean Kevin. The family will receive visitors on Monday, January 20, 2014, 6 to 8 p.m. at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Avenue, Vienna VA 22180. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 12:45 p.m. in the Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA 22211 followed by interment with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sean K.
