CHARLES WILHELM Obituary

CHARLES FREE WILHELM
Passed away June 2, 2017 after a long illness at the age of 72. A lifelong resident of Baltimore, Maryland, Charles dedicated his professional life to public education, serving as Dean of the Adult Education Program at Edmondson-Westside Skill Center, from its inception for nearly 20 years. A graduate of Baltimore City College, Charles earned bachelor and law degrees from the University of Baltimore, a masters from Johns Hopkins University, and completed advanced graduate studies at the University of Maryland. Growing up in the house that his grandfather built, Charles warmly recalled baseball games and bike rides with close neighborhood friends. Charles and his wife, Patti Madden, regularly attended art lectures at the Delaware Art Museum, watched foreign films at the Charles Theater, relished meals and Greek television at Zorba's, and indulged in nova and conversation at Common Ground. Over their 48 years of marriage, Charles and Patti zealously discovered local haunts and vacationed from the rocky shorelines of Maine to the river roads of New Orleans. Charles loved trains, sailing ships, blue crabs, and Leonard Cohen. His subtle sense of humor, creative wordplay, and soothing tenor voice will be missed by all. Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Wilhelm, son Kenneth Tuttle Wilhelm, daughters Ondine Wells and Anya Wilhelm, grandchildren Aleida and Eli Wells and many cousins. He is predeceased by his son Jonathan, and parents Marjorie and Russell Wilhelm. Charles requested to be cremated and ashes water-scattered. A private celebration of life will be held later in the summer. Additional details at fb.com/groups/1495971173810583

As neighbors, we will miss seeing him and sharing our lovely green fields. He was a lovely man with warm humor.

Mr. Wilhelm was a sweet, generous man of many interests. He always had a smile for me when I visited. He instilled wonderful values in his kids and I am a better person for that. Thank you Mr. Wilhelm.
