CHRISTINE WILLCOX Obituary

CHRISTINE LONG WILLCOX
Christine Long Willcox formerly of Bethesda, MD, died at her summer home on Nantucket on September 9, 2013, after a long illness. She was 98. Born on March 7, 1915, in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the only daughter of Ambassador Breckinridge Long and Christine Graham Long. She shared her father's love of owning thoroughbred racehorses, collecting antiques, and playing golf, and also had an affinity for bridge and needlepoint. She was a past president of the Washington Junior League, as well as an active member of the Chevy Chase Club, the Colonial Dames of America, the Nantucket Garden Club, the Nantucket Yacht Club, and Sankaty Head Golf Club. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Arnold Willcox, and her son, Breckinridge Willcox. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and George Spencer of Dallas, Texas; her six grandsons: George Spencer, Arnold Spencer, John Spencer, Andrew Spencer, Blair Willcox, and Christopher Willcox; and six great-grandchildren. The surviving family members wish to extend their deepest gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Maria Vazquez and Blanca Fernandez. Mrs. Willcox will be buried next to her husband on Nantucket. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Willcox's name to the Washington National Cathedral.
