Christopher Simpson Obituary

SIMPSON Sgt. CHRISTOPHER CURTIS SIMPSON In the early morning hours of Monday, March 17, 2008, Sergeant Christopher Curtis Simpson, age 23, made the ultimate sacrifice during his service to his country, his family, and his friends. Chris was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq with the 1-68th Combined Arms Battalion, Charlie Company, when his convoy came under attack. In addition to other numerous personal award and campaign ribbons, Sgt. Simpson will be awarded posthumously the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his courageous service. Chris was a soldier and so much more. He loved life, family, friends and country. His heart was as large as his selfless love for his fellow man. He lived his life for others. His strong, yet gentle, being was a beacon for the young and old alike. The Army gave him direction in his life, a direction aimed at helping others. Chris's aspiration was to return toschool, become a teacher, and help young men and women find the right path in life. Chris's love for his fiance, Carol, was insurmountable and unconditional. Always remember, "Cobra Commander"; "Is it time" Redskins' ffootball, 4 David Drive, Living on the Edge, and "Memento Mori." We are better people for having known you. Our hearts have been touched by you and we will never forget you. Surviving are his mother, Kate Lukenbill and her fiance, Dave Rosser; father, Scott Simpson and his wife, Mary; brothers, Corporal Richard Simpson, United States Marine Corps, Matthew and Michael Simpson; sister, Anna Simpson; fiancee, Carol Fries; paternal grandparents, Alan and Evelyn Simpson; maternal grandmother, Joan Lukenbill; maternal grandfather, Felix Lukenbill and his wife Marcia; great-grandmother, Mary Simpson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services for our hero, Christopher, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be private at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Hampton, VA. One may view Chris' Video Tribute at: http://www.BuranichFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jordan-Elbridge Dollars for Scholars, In Memory of Christopher Simpson, P.O. Box 901, Jordan, NY 13080. Today was the first time I heard of the sacrifice Chris made. The local Iraq war monument in Cape Coral, FL added his name recently. Chris was my room mate for four months in basic training. From what I remember, he was a warrior and ready for action.

I can't believe it has been 5 years since you have been gone. I think about you all the time. We had a lot of good times over the years, wish we had more chances before you were gone. I find myself at a loss sometimes, remembering high school, you know I had you and wouldn't let anyone mess with you on Rome. Wish I had been there later on. I miss you more than I can say, you'll always be in my thoughts and there on those beautiful summer days we loved. I'll see you again someday. Until then...

January 7, 2013

As 2013 is now here, it is hard for me to believe it will be 5 years since we said good-bye. Not a day goes by where I do not think of you or look at a picture of your smiling face. I know you are shining down around us, and you continue to give us the strength to move ahead. You are truely missed at the holiday celebrations a time you loved so much , and if it was up to me, you would be the recipiant of the ugly sweater!!!! LOL I love and miss you until we meet again thank you for being our angel. Until we meet again A. Phyl

I had a chance to ride a bicycle through NYC in memory of Chris last weekend with some of his family and I was reminded of Chris' passion for adventure. He would undoubtedly be pleased that his friends and family participated in a demanding physical activity in his memory and honor. I was certainly honored to have the opportunity to be part of it. R.I.P. Sarge, and thank you for your service and sacrifice!

Dear Chris,
I have never met you but I feel I have known you for so long. I have the honors of knowing you through your Aunt Phyllis. Words can not express the gratitude I have for your service in keeping our freedom. Thank you in not enough to tell you. But I can promise that I will always keep your Mom Kate and Aunt Phyllis in my prayers everyday for strength, until you can see them. I on the other hand will look forward to meeting you one day in the heavens above and embrace and say "It is finally nice to meet you". Until then, I will continue to look forward of meeting you everyday through the precious words of your Aunt Phyllis and smile. For now, I know I never knew you but I have to say, I miss you and you are never forgotten.

To Sgt. Simpson's family - I just met you at the Waterloo, NY outlet mall about an hour ago. [Nov. 08, 2009] I saw your shirts in the Harry and David store and talked to you for a while about Christopher. May you all, family, fiance' and all, be comforted by God's love, and by the idea that it is truly a grateful nation that honors Sgt. Simpson. I live in Waterloo, NY - home of Memorial Day- I will talk to the organizers about the possibility of flying a "honor and Remember" flag in our parade next memorial day weekend. God bless you all

To the family of Christopher C. Simpson. While I may not know you nor did I have the honor of knowing Chris I feel a deep pain at his passing and for the void it leaves you, his family as well as our country. Although it can not make the pain go away may you take some comfort knowing that there are many like myself who pray for you and for Chris and that his loss does not go unoticed nor will he be forgotten. He is a true hero who was given a special light from God, this light gave him the courage to enlist in the Army and fight for the freedom of not only the citizens of the United States but those in other countries. What a special young man he is. May God bless him always as well as you his family and may you know the joy of reuniting with your son, brother again one day.

To the Simpson family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Christophers' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

From our military family to yours, we would like to thank SPC Simpson for his service and sacrifice to this great country, as well as send our deepest condolences for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.
