Dear Smart Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I can still remember Clarence at the Bethany Beach house up on a ladder cleaning gutters in his 80's. He was an amazing man and his spirit was always so much younger and cooler than the rest of us. I always think of him when I see that pine tree he planted as a tiny sapling between our houses.... he had no doubt it would grow to replace the old one and look at it now. How lucky we are to have such great neighbors as you all... and we'll miss Clarence so.
Love,

My deepest sympathy to you, Mrs. Smart, and your girls on the loss of your husband. My mother, Anna Turner, considered you such a dear friend and you were always so kind to her. My sister, Margaret , and I have fond memories of babysitting the girls.
I so enjoyed meeting Mr. Smart years ago at your house in Bethany Beach and catching up on the news with you.
Our prayers go out to all of you.

Clarence was such a great man, husband, father and grandfather. I will forever remember fondly our time on the Cheverly swim team with your Dad (and Mom). It was even more fun to enjoy our time visiting on the beach as adults. My prayers and thoughts are with the Smart family.

To the Smart Family, I was so sorry to hear about Clarence. I can picture him standing on the shore with a smile on his face. He was the beacon of the beach. We had quite a few chats in Bethany. Such a sweetheart. We will miss him.

Whenever I saw Clarence, he always had a smile on his face. I guess being the only man in a house of girls/women for 94 years, gives you something to smile about!

I am extremely sad for the loss of my dear cousin. I am so grateful that my daughter and I visited Clarence, Ella, and all their family members about three years ago. Clarence was a very intelligent, talented man. He was so very, very proud of Ella and their wonderful family. He will be deeply missed. With love from his Kansas cousin, Mary
