On Saturday, October 29, 2005 of Washington, DC. Wife of James Batts. Beloved mother of LaRiena Kirkland and Chantise Batts. Loving daughter of Ellen Simpkins. Devoted sister of Beatrice Savoy, Sandra Barnett, Mary Barnett, and Wayne Tolson. Loving grandmother of Keyosha and London Kirkland, Doctanian and D'onte Batts. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. On Saturday, November 5, friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. at MARSHALL'S FUNERAL HOME of Maryland, 4308 Suitland Road Suitland, MD. My heart was sadden when I learned of Claudia's passing. During our earlier years, we spent many enjoyable times together. I always admired her strength and courage. She will always be remembered in my heart.

Dear Ellen, Sandra, Mary, children and family--I was so sorry to read about Claudia's passing today in the paper. Claudia was real kind to me as a young teenager. I will always remember how she would allow me to wear her expensive shoes when we all lived on 18th Street. You have my deepest sympathy. I will see you on Saturday.
