CONNOR AUGUSTUS JONES

January 22, 1992 â€" August 8, 2023

Connor Augustus Jones of Santa Barbara, CA and Jackson Hole, WY died on August 8, 2023 at 31 years old. He was born on January 22, 1992, in the District of Columbia and was raised in Potomac, MD. He attended Norwood School, Landon School, and the University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB, he studied comparative literature, and he was in the final stages of completing a second degree from the business program at the time of his death.

Connor had a kind, gentle, and artistic soul. He gave so much as a very loyal, loving friend to so many, and his community brought him immense joy. He was highly intellectual, creative, and curious which propelled him forward as a great debater, gifted writer, and inventive artist. He would go on to use these skills in his work in the film and music industries.

He loved sports and was happiest hiking, skiing, rafting, and biking in the west. In Jackson Hole, he climbed popular peaks in the winter for backcountry skiing. Through his hiking adventures, Connor spent a lifetime exploring countless mountain ranges across Alaska, the lower 48, Europe, and South America. He spoke of a groundedness and creativity that came from his time in the wilderness, and he particularly loved the desert lands of the Mojave and Colorado Plateau as a source for that inspiration.

Connor was not afraid to talk about his more difficult chapters. 10 years ago, his life and health were forever altered by a deadly bacterial infection that surgeons battled to contain in more than a dozen operations to save his life and leg. The journey continued for years as he navigated follow up reconstructive procedures, nerve clinics, and more. The years of prescribed medicine during this trauma led to addiction struggles, but he persevered with a positive attitude and overcame pain few in this world can imagine.

He spent the last ten years healing, working, and completing his education. Connor was able to rebuild his strength and enjoy all the sports he loved. His family and friends took tremendous pride and joy from his tenacity and successes throughout his recovery.

He was passionate about music, photography, and film. In the film industry, he worked on several large budget movies including Red 2 and Transformers: Bumblebee. His creativity led him towards directing, and he progressed in his directorial career working as an Assistant to the Director and as a Second Camera Assistant on indie films. Transitioning into his own projects, he blended his passion for music and film with directing captivating music videos, and he built a reputation for his unique vision. He had a successful music blog, Bright Shiny Music, and spent years DJing; both of which expressed his unique joy in turning what could be solitary pursuits into a means of forging connections and sharing that passion with his community.

Connor's early death leaves a huge hole in our family, and he will forever be remembered for his lively, bright, and loving character. His strong positive attitude helped him persevere through adversity and enjoy the best that life had to offer. He is survived by his father, Evan Jones, and his mother, Cynthia Atchison Jones "Cindy", of Jackson Hole, WY; his younger sister, Stephanie Jones, of Brighton, UT; his older brother, Ryan Jones, and his wife, Jordan Schenck, and their son, Owen Jones, of San Francisco, CA; by his grandfather, Curtis Jones, of Darien, CT and many other loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on October 14, 2023 in the Washington, DC area. In lieu of flowers please consider making a gift to the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole's mental health program or the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.
