CONRAD MARSHALL Obituary

MARSHALL CONRAD JOSEPH MARSHALL Conrad Joseph Marshall who practiced law in McLean, Virginia for over 50 years, passed away at his home in Great Falls on December 6, 2017. Beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Marshall, loving father of Andy Marshall, Amy Marshall-Ruschaupt, and Chris Marshall, son of Casimir Mszanowski and Helen Ladowski-Mszanowski, and devoted brother of Casey Marshall, Barbara Reszkowski, and Dolores Ward, Conrad is also survived by his grandchildren, Abby and Kirsten Ruschaupt, son-in-law Chris Ruschaupt, and daughter-in-law Tanya Kaufman. Conrad was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania where he was proud to have saved lives as a lifeguard on the Peninsula at Presque Isle. After graduating from Erie's Cathedral Prep, he earned an undergraduate degree at Gannon University (where he was a member of the TKE fraternity), a master's degree in journalism at Penn State, and a J.D. at Catholic University. Conrad, one of the very first attorneys in McLean, was devoted to his community, and was extremely active in local, state, and national politics. In the 60's, Conrad marched with the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington D.C. and worked for John and Bobby Kennedy. Conrad was a fixture in Fairfax County and Virginia Democratic politics in the 70's and 80's, including a term as Chairman of the Fairfax County Democratic party. Conrad worked tirelessly in the establishment of the McLean Community Center and played a central role on the campaigns of former Fairfax County Supervisor Rufus Phillips for Supervisor, Congress, and U.S. Senate, as well as Chuck Robb for Governor and Senator, Jimmy Carter for President, and many more. He ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in 1980. Conrad was a committed environmentalist and could often be found fishing for smallmouth bass on the Potomac River, where he built a home with his wife of over half a century, Betsy, whom he absolutely adored. Relatives and friends are invited to attend viewings on Friday, December 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Money and King funeral home at 171 W. Maple Ave. Vienna, VA, as well as a funeral mass on Saturday, December 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Virginia followed by a reception from 12 to 3 p.m., also at St. Luke. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Conrad's favorite charity, St. Joseph's Lakota Indian School at 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325 (800-341-2235,[email protected]). Betsy, We are shocked and saddened with this painful news. As you know, Conrad and Greg were classmates and great friends at Prep and Gannon. They played sports, camped along Lake Erie and in Cook's Forest, and roomed together later on in DC. Then, you and Conrad introduced us, we became a couple, and the US Army took us away. In Greg's military duties, in the 1980s, he met FBI and federal attorneys who praised Con's professional skills (no surprise there) -- wish we had had a chance to tell him. Please accept our deepest sympathy for You and your Family. Gloria & Greg Meyer

Dear Betsy (Mary),
I am so saddened to read about Conrad's passing and wish I could be with you this morning at his services. We have met in the past here in Erie on the occasion of the 50th class reunion from St. Stanislaus grade school (9/29/01).Conrad has photos of our event. He was always a friendly, gentle and an intelligent guy. My husband Joe went to Prep with Conrad.(Joe is related to Kathy Gardner which your husband noted to us). Much love and sympathy to you and your family.

Conrad was a great next door neighbor and friend back in Erie during our school years. After college we all went separate ways and lost touch with each other as I have been in Texas for 49 of the last 52 years. May his soul rest in peace and may God bless his entire family for this tremendous loss!
