Dear Laurette and Catalina,

I can only imagine the huge void that Cornelius' passing leaves in your lives.

From all the wonderful things I have heard and read about him, it's disappointing to me that I never initiated any contact with him and with you.

There's a lesson in that. We should all reach out and listen to each other's stories--before it's too late.

I often sit behind you at the 11:15 Mass--bald-headed, glasses, gray moustache, and cane.

Peace be with you.

Dear Mrs. Bennhold and Catalina,
I had Dr. Bennhold for my introduction to physics lecture and I found him such a wonderful mentor. I've always had a great affinity for MacGyver so imagine my delight and surprise when he showed some MacGyver clips to illustrate certain physics principles during various lectures! He was kind enough to encourage me in my pursuit of medical studies and wrote me letters of recommendation. I was in sporadic contact over the years and had the pleasure of seeing him once while I was visiting campus several years ago. I was so saddened and shocked to hear of his passing. Please be assured of my prayers for the happy repose of his soul and for your family.
God bless,

Dear Laurette & Catalina:

I just heard the news of Cornelius’ passing. My heart goes out to you. I am so inspired by the courageous battle you all fought over the years. I pray that you will find the strength now to overcome the grief that has entered your lives. I hope too, that you will know that there is a community of people around you who love you and who are willing to help you. You are a single Mom now, too, and that can be overwhelming. Your daughter has two big sisters in my family that would be happy to be with her, take her to Six Flags for the day, take her to the mall, and help her understand that she too is part of an extended network and family. Our hearts and souls are with you as you embark on this next passage of live. Love, the Lekis

Laurette and Catalina: What a journey it was for all of you, these past years. But Laurette, I cannot imagine a better partner for someone faced with that journey but you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and will continue to be as you and Catalina start a new journey to honor the great husband and father Cornelius was/is. Much love...Michelle, Jim, Katie & Caroline Heywood
