Darrell Hayes Obituary
Darrell C. Hayes (Age 75)
Darrell Clifton Hayes, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Loving husband of Rozella; cherished father of Tamara Donohue (Brian); grandfather of Will, Eric and the late Jackson Donohue; brother of Yvonne Valverde (Dan) and Dale Hayes. He will be missed by many.
Darrell was the oldest of three children, born in Grand Junction, Colorado to Clifton and Lois Hayes. As a child he moved all over the world, finally settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There he met Rozella P. McCabe and they were married in December 1970. After graduating from the University of New Mexico with B.S. and M.A. degrees, he served for 22 years in the United States Air Force in a variety of personnel and public affairs positions, additionally receiving a second M.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Following his career with the USAF, he opened his own public relations firm, served as the managing director of the Aerospace Education Foundation and was a full-time adjunct faculty member in the School of Communication at American University. He was accredited with the National Public Relations Society of America.
Darrell was an active member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria. He taught various Sunday School classes, sang in the church choir, served as a deacon, chair of the executive church council and church historian.
A gathering will be held at First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King St. Alexandria, VA 22302 on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, from 10 to 11 a.m. where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Inurnment following at Quantico National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the FBCA Building Fund.

Just heard (belatedly) of Darrell Hayes' passing. Our hearts and prayers for Rozella and family. I worked for Lt. Col. Hayes for several years in USAF and ran into him professionally a couple times over the years. He was a dedicated professional, a patriot and a believer...gone but not forgotten.
