I still cannot believe you are gone. My heart breaks every day for the entire Craven family and friends of David. I have my memories of childhood through highschool. I have my pic of David, Greg S and I on my work bulletin board. Gone too soon David. So sad I did not get to see you like we had all planned but schedules (which David got right, family first and his beautiful kids - so dedicated) got in the way. The services were beautiful and you were very loved and will not be forgotten. Much love and strength to you, Tara and your kids. My heart hurts every day.

To the Family and Friends of Dave Craven...
I was away on business travel last week and was unable to attend Dave's services. Please accept my sincere sympathy and condolences.
Dave had such a vibrant and generous spirit, and an admirable approach to life. He was a kind soul. From the day I first met him at FASEB, I've considered him to be high on the list of my "Favorite Friends at FASEB". I have fond memories of the day I introduced Dave to the FASEB MARC Program grants and informed him that the FSR 269 report for the MARC 1 grant was just days away from being due to NIH. I still laugh when I think about the surprised look on his face when I presented him with a copy of the former Director of Finance's grant accounting system which was recorded on ledger paper!! Dave said he had not used or even seen accounting ledger paper in many years... like forever!! But that did not deter him from taking on the task of figuring out the financial status of the grants and then converting all of those ledger paper records into Microsoft Excel sheets and reports. I was and still am so grateful for the work he did as the Administrative/Signing Official for our MARC federal grants.
It was always a joy to stop by Dave's office for a business matter and end up in a fun and lively chat with him. (He loved to talk!) Dave shared many interesting and fun stories about his life, his family and his friends. I remember meeting his daughter (Megan) when she came to FASEB for "bring your kids to work day". He was a proud dad and very proud of his children.
Knowing how much I like photography, Dave would show me his photos from his boating/fishing trips and vacations. His latest share was back in August when he told me about his weekend visit to his friend's cabin in West Virginia. He said it was so relaxing to spend that time in nature. Dave said the next time he planned to visit the "cabin community", he would plan to take his family and share that experience with them.
When Dave learned that I occasionally bike the W&OD trail on weekends, he told me to let him know when I would be out there again so that he could come out and run along on the trail with me. He said his home was very close to the W&OD trail.
Dave was my "High I" compadre among FASEB senior staff members. He "got" me and understood my sense of humor and appreciation of fun. He will be greatly missed and his absence from the FASEB campus will be deeply felt.

To the Craven family-
Dave's loss leaves me at a lack for words. As Treasurer of FASEB, I worked closely with Dave for several years. Although I only saw him face-to-face a couple of times per year, we always had very interesting conversations. He was a wonderful person, and I will miss him lots. Have peace in knowing how much Dave was respected and loved by all.

What can one say, we lost a wonderful man in Dave, and way too early. He was the best friend any person could hope for. He lived a good clean life devoted to his family and helping others. He set an example for me, and many others, to follow.
I will miss our talks and our fishing trips - but his memory will never fade.

I am so shocked at this loss. Although once high school ended and we all went seperate ways, my Yeonas friends are always in my heart. I kept up with Dave via his best friend Greg. There was about 14 of us in the hood who were very close; were there for each other. We hung out almost every day of our younger lives. David was a jokster and a very happy person. We all loved him. He looked up to my brothers and was involved in many silly antics with them! Ah, the memories. There were so many adventures as kids and so much time spent together. In our teen years the Craven's house was the gathering place for month long games of Risk and hanging out. Aside from the obvious, I will remember David who walked on his tippy toes as a kid and we lovingly teased him. My heart goes out to Tara and David's beautiful children and the rest of his family. God Bless You. And David, one day we will all see you again. (I posted this post here after reading all the wonderful things said about David on the Money and King website from our hometown. I am not suprised to hear what a happy, funny, smart, helpful person he was).

Dear Craven Family,
I'm so very sorry to learn of the Dave's passing. Dave and I worked together for many years at FASEB. Although he made me crazy at times because he couldn't give a simple answer to a simple question, I knew he'd give me the right and best answer. There are so many great memories of working with Dave it's hard to pick just one, but one that really stands out is the day long email conversations we would have about absolutely nothing where the message would only be one word. Believe it or not, he actually made accounting a little fun for those of us that don't like numbers! Dave loved his work, his yearly fishing trips with his friends, cooking, but what was most obvious, he deeply loved his wife and children and to share stories about them. Heaven just became a better place because of Dave.
My sincerely condolences,
Kerrie Wilson

Dear Tara and family - all of us at Cornerstones/Reston Interfaith and the Healthy Families Fairfax team offer you our heartfelt prayers. Dave's life was special in so many ways - not the least of which was his service through KOC and to reach out and touch families in need, with support, comfort and welcome. Our Healthy Families Fairfax program helps first-time parents and their child from pregnancy through preschool. Dave's support of this program meant so much to everyone; his smile and generosity made him a true friend to the staff who were so privileged to work with him. Thinking of you all. Kerrie Wilson, Cornerstones (Reston Interfaith)

Dave was both a client and a friend. We worked well together and I will miss that. My sympathies go out to his family who will miss him even more than me. There are no words to express our loss.
