HARNED

DAVID WARREN HARNED

COMMANDER, CEC, USN (Ret.)

On Thursday, November 2, 2006. Though a native of Washington, DC, CDR Harned was raised in Kentucky. His BCE was from the Speed Scientific School (University of Louisville) and his MSCE from the University of Washington. After a successful career of 22 years with the Navy, he spent many years as Director of Public Works for the City of El Paso, TX. Following his retirement from El Paso, he operated his own engineering consulting company. CDR Harned also wrote a column on transportation issues for The Chronicle Newspapers. He was active in a number of professional and civic organizations as well as a volunteer for the VASCR Society. He was a keen road rallyist and sports car enthusiast. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, and daughters, Allison Duquette and Lindsay Hart. A visitation will be held at his home on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Ft. Myer Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery where interment will follow. Arrangements by CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, Alexandria.

During David's tenure as Public Works Director for the City of El Paso, I came to know David not as as supervisor, but as a friend and mentor. I will miss David, and so to will the City of El Paso for the many accomplishments and efforts that he made to make this a better community.

My deepest condolences to David's family.
