DAVID JOHNS Obituary
David Johns (Age 56)
David Johns, a computer engineer and long-time resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away January 7, 2022 at the age of 56 due to complications relating to COVID-19. David is survived by his father, Dave; his wife Lisa; his children Tim and Bill; and his siblings Peter, Kerry, Sarah, Michael and Mary. David's mother Marian Johns died December 3, 2021 - five weeks before her son's passing. David was born in Pittsburgh on August 13, 1965 to Dave and Marian, the first of six children. The family lived in Pittsburgh for several years. Attending Pittsburgh Pirates games was a favorite activity and David remained a lifelong fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Pirates and Penguins. He later grew to love the Washington Nationals. The Johns family moved in the late 1970s to Fredonia, a small borough in rural Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where they lived on farmland. The experience couldn't have been more different than living in Pittsburgh. David and his siblings took turns feeding and caring for farm animals, while the family sustained itself by growing their own crops. While attending Clarion University in western Pennsylvania, David met his future wife Lisa through a Christian fellowship group on campus. It wasn't long before David began tutoring Lisa in math and they started dating. David and Lisa were married in 1992 and they remained together until David's passing. The marriage produced two children: Tim (1999, born Emily) and Bill (2001). David graduated from Clarion University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He came close to graduating with a double-major - David was just three credits shy of getting a degree in Computer Science. Much like his father, David had a natural interest in computers. His first job after graduating was working for his father, who ran his own business building computer systems. David parlayed his skills into a 30-year career as a computer programmer for federal contracts. David was equally passionate about music. He found solace listening to jazz, classical, country and classic rock, and he sang in Shady Grove PCA's choir for several years. David was also an avid reader and film buff. Family movie nights were something he always looked forward to. Family and friends remember David for his soft spoken nature and dry wit, which would often come out of left field. Most of all, David will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed spending time with family. A celebration of David's life will be held Saturday, February 26 at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove PCA in Derwood, Maryland. A reception will be held following the memorial service.
