To David's family: I've known David for more than 20 years, and although we never had an opportunity to work together, we had many very stimulating technical discussions. David was possibly the brightest guy that I've ever met. When he came to Mayo Clinic several years ago for further diagnosis and possible treatment of his illness, he visited my lab, and we had more time to talk than we had ever had before. An amazing individual, not only for his technical intellect, and for his insights on many topics, but also for his positive attitude and pragmatism in the face of a terrible illness. I wish I had known him better, and will miss him.

I knew David through his company when they were seeking investors. We never connected financially, but I found him one of the smartest guys I had ever met. I chatted with him about business, politics, and other things. He was always interesting and of course courageous at the end. Go with the best memories of a too-short life.

To my good friends at the Salzman household: David was an amazing man. I first became friends with Michael weeks before the school community was told of the diagnosis and even then I was amazed at the loving way David and Beth opened their home to me. When I heard about the diagnosis I marveled - and I continue to marvel - at the strength and mutual support that the Salzman family showed both as a loving household and a group of individuals. David fought to the end for the benefit of his family, and I praise him for that. He was a great man and will be remembered as such in my heart. I will never forget him or his courage even up to the brink of death where he stood so many times. I can only hope that when my days are at an end I will show the fortitude and strength that he did, and that I will love my family as much as him - and that my family loves me as much as Beth, Michael and Joel loved and continue to love David.

To the Salzman family: What a great man David was and I am very sorry for your loss. I have been acting as one of his tax advisors (Polychip and Lightspin) for many years and was truley amazed at how talented he was, not to mention the couragous battle he fought against the illness so he could stay with his family. He was and is an inspiration to myself and others and his legacy lives on.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember watching Joel and my daughter Alyssa play softball when they were very young. It was heartwarming to see him enjoying time spent with his children. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
