I was fortunate to be a guest often in the home of David and Lisa Todd over the years. Lisa and I met in Greenville, Miss in 1964 when we both worked as volunteers for the SNCC voter registration project. We attended the 1964 Democratic Convention together. David was always the gracious host with a drink and story ready. When Lisa came to DC in 1966, she moved into the same building as I and my husband. My husband, an old friend of hers from college days, also worked at UPO. It was a small world. I miss those times still but wish the best to David's daughter and family. He was so proud of her and her accomplishments. Love and Hugs!

Sending love and condolences from Nancy and the entire Middleton family at Surfside. David and Lisa were such great neighbors and so kind to Wib and Nancy in that beautiful place. The two of them epitomized the original, simple, loving spirit of the island which is harder to come by now. We will miss seeing David ride by on his bike, or drive by with Alex in the convertible Beetle. Here's to a life well lived and a person well loved.

I, along with so many others lucky enough to know the late David, wish to send special thoughts and sympathy to Alex, Stephen, Emily and Matthew, each family member and indeed wider circle of friends and colleagues of this great human being - one of nature's finest gentlemen. I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with David for so many years - always such enjoyable company. I hope happier thoughts may sustain each of you during these difficult days and the words of the Irish Philosopher and Poet, John O'Donohue spring to mind - (poem: "Beannacht" from Anam Cara ) - When the canvas frays in the currach of thought, and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you, may there come across the waters a path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home. David - I salute you and a life well lived - Rest in Peace - you surely must be "safely home" now - a reward richly deserved.
