Barnes

Dennis N. Barnes

In Rockville, Maryland, died of complications from Dementia on March 23, 2023. He was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, and after a few years in Michigan and Illinois he moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, in 1947. He grew up in Rockville, Maryland. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1962, and then from Georgetown Law in 1965, he served as a Judge Advocate Officer in the Army (1965-1969) and then joined the Morgan, Lewis & Bockius law firm's Washington, DC office in 1970. Three decades later he retired in 2000. Dennis loved books with a passion, especially about history, and amassed a large library. Another lifelong interest was vintage (1920s – 1940s) blues & jazz. While at Dartmouth he had a weekly jazz program on their radio station WDCR. The one sport he enjoyed the most was golf – and he spent a lot of time practicing. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ingrid, son, Richard, daughter, Kendra Barnes South, and granddaughters, Anna Gerda and Erika. He has one surviving sister, Nancy Whitney Pirnat.

One of the nicest, most wonderful men I have ever been lucky to have known. We worked together for a little over 20 years at Morgan Lewis. He, and his family, will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. liliane.
