Diane Jones

Diane Johnson Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, with her husband of 59 years at her side. She was 81 years old.
Diane dedicated her life to education, an unwavering advocacy for children with special needs, and to the steadfast love she had for her family. For nearly six decades, she shared a remarkable partnership with her husband, General James L. Jones, USMC (Ret.), walking beside him through years of service, adventure, and companionship around the world. As First Lady of the Marine Corps, Diane was a devoted advocate for the Exceptional Family Member Program, driving additional support and resources toward Marine families with special needs children.
Diane was the proud mother of four children...Jimmy, Jennifer, Kevin, and Greg...each of whom now carries forward her spirit, warmth, and deep compassion. She deeply loved her nine grandchildren and two daughters in-law and her legacy will live on through all of them, in addition through the countless lives she touched.
Anyone who knew Diane will remember her class, grace, boundless kindness, and unwavering sense of purpose and drive. She had a gift for making every person feel valued and every place feel like home. She especially loved the holidays with family and took great joy in hosting family and friends, creating cherished memories for all who gathered around her table.
A private family mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Catch A Lift Fund, a cause close to Diane and Jim's hearts in support of the military and veteran community they both loved so much. The family will be receiving friends and family at reception at the Tower Club (8000 Towers Crescent Drive, McLean, VA 22182) from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, 24 November to celebrate Diane's life.
