Douglas Gerrard Memery

Douglas Gerrard Memery passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 17, 2025 in Carmel, Indiana following a battle with congestive heart failure. A memorial service is being held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday, August 23 at 10 a.m.
Doug was born on March 28, 1941 in Springfield, MA and adopted two years later by Victor George Memery and Mary Rose Memery, nee FitzGerald. He grew up in West Hartford, Ct, later moving to the Northern Virginia area where he was a long-time resident of Middleburg, VA before moving to Louisville, KY and finally Williamsburg, VA.
A graduate of Bates College in Lewiston ME, Doug distinguished himself as a multi-sport athlete. He enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, working with Wright & Co of Alexandria, VA, Boston Mutual Life Insurance and Memery Insurance Associates, focusing on Association and NGO benefits.
Doug is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Caroline Elizabeth Memery, nee Nylund and his grandson Michael Christian Williams. He is survived by his son Stephen Douglas Memery, daughter-in-law Mary Elizabeth Chapman and her children Marguerite, Ellen, Elizabeth and Nathaniel, his daughter Jennifer Memery Blackburn son-in-law John Blackburn and his children Baylee, Mia, and Lily. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren, Douglas Christian Williams and Caroline Nichole Williams.
He was the best father, a great husband, a loyal friend. He was a good man, a "Good Egg", and he will be greatly missed.
