DUQUESNE WOLF Obituary

DUQUESNE A. WOLF "Duke" Col., U.S. Army (Ret.)
Passed away peacefully in Crestview, FL on December 26, 2017 at the age of 93. He is survived by his devoted wife, Myong Wolf, of Niceville, FL, and three children from his first marriage, Eric (Nancy) Wolf of San Diego, CA, Audrey Wolf and Carl Wolf, both of Alexandria, VA; a nephew, Robert Wolf, of New York, NY, and a niece, Diane Wolf, of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Wolf, and their son, Roy Wolf; his second wife, Tomoko Wolf, and his brothers, Harry Wolf and William Wolf. Duke was born to Joseph and Mollie Wolf on July 23, 1924 in New York, NY, where he spent his boyhood years. He then attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated with the Class of 1946. He went on to have a distinguished career in the U.S. Army for 28 years, which included tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Vietnam and many other assignments. After retiring in 1974, Duke continued to be engaged as a military advisor and to enjoy his lifelong passions for world travel, history, art and music. Also, in his retirement years, Duke played a pivotal role in the very challenging process and effort that resulted in the establishment of the United States Armored Forces Monument in honor of the veterans who served in armored warfare in the major conflicts of the 20th Century. The monument was dedicated on November 11, 1991 and is located on Memorial Drive at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. Throughout his life, Duke was inspired by the creed, "Duty, Honor, Country." We will proudly salute his military service and "duty well performed" with love, admiration and gratitude when he is laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on January 4, 2019.

I was a young Army Lieutenant in Germany when I took a Space A flight to Rota Spain. My great fortune to meet Duke & his buddy Bob. I loved their Army stories and they helped me explore the area. Duke was funny and a gentleman. That was 45 years ago and I still remember him clearly.

I am one of Duke's California cousins--our fathers were brothers. We got together with Duke after he retired. He visited us here in the San Francisco area a number of times. We wondered why we did not hear from him this past year as he usually sent a card or note at holiday time nor we able to contact him when we tried to phone. We were very saddened to learn of his passing. We will always remember the happy times when he visited us. As long as we live, he too shall live, as we remember him.

Rest in Peace Colonel Wolf ! I met Duke Wolf when we worked on the 25th Infantry Division Vietnam Veterans Reunion in 1987. I worked with him on the Armored Forces Monument in 199-91.
