Ah, Jeanne, I am just now finding out about this. Earl was a feature of some of my finest memories of Middlebury, and I was so happy to see you both at our last reunion. When I met Earl as a freshman, I knew immediately that he was a good soul; smart and good, worldly and open to life. I was so happy when he told me about you, and I was so pleased to meet you. I wish I had been able to meet your kids. My thoughts are with you all. Ave atque vale, Earl!

Earl was two years younger than I was in my high school years in Bogotá, Colombia. That age difference was sufficient to guaranteed it we didn´t socialize with each other. But as adults, we found we had a lot to share. With the advent of email addresses and the efforts of numerous CNG classmates, we were able to find out that quite a few of us lived in the Washington DC area. Earl began to join us at quarterly lunches before Covid hit, and the last time we saw him as a group was in May of this year. Of course by this time, he wasn´t just some teenaged kid; he was a man with an impressive career and body of knowledge about topics we often touched on over lunch. He had a quiet and gentle way of sharing his knowledge and opinions.
I wish we had had more time with Earl, but I know that our loss of a friend is nothing when compared with the loss your family is experiencing. Thank you for giving up some of your time with Earl so that we could share happy memories with him and learn more about who we became as adults.

Dear Jeanne and Family,
Earl was in my younger brother's class in Bogota. I met him years later at a CNG event in DC and liked him immediately. We both pursued careers which were greatly influenced by our overseas upbringing and shared many things. He was so interesting to speak with and will be greatly missed by all of us in the CNG lunch group. It will not be the same without him.
With great sympathy for your loss,
Carolin

Jeanne and family,
This is such a loss. He struggled mightily not to leave us. He was an extraordinary person and a dear friend for the last 50+ years. I will be writing to you, but just wanted to send my condolences and love. Kira
