EDWARD BLICK Obituary
BLICK Edward Albert Blick Passed away November 1, 2021, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 95. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Brown) Blick, daughter, Ellen (Blick) Rorrer, father, Samuel Blick, mother, Rose (Geris) Blick and sister, Lois (Blick) Kiechel. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Samuel S. Blick and wife, Joyce Blick of Knoxville, TN, and John S. Blick and wife, Lisa Blick of Rockville, MD; his sister, Betty (Blick) Brilmyer of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Courtney (Rorrer) Stivers, Jessica (Blick) Sheah, Stephanie Blick, Garrett Blick, Alexa Blick, John Blick, Jr., and Christopher Blick; two great-grandsons, Nate and Cole Sheah, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ed graduated from St. John's Military High School in Washington, DC in August 1944. The following morning he left for basic training. Four months later he was frostbitten and starving in a frozen foxhole while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He served the war on the front line as a forward observer for a mortar division in Patton's 3rd Army, 4th Division, 12th Infantry. In addition to the Battle of the Bulge, he also participated in the liberation of Rothenberg, Germany and a Nazi forced labor camp. He earned a Bronze Star, the Presidential Unit Citation for Valor and a Purple Heart. Due to battlefield promotions, he achieved the rank of second lieutenant during his time in Europe. He was training for the invasion of Japan when the Pacific war ended. After some time in the reserves, he retired from the Army as a First Lieutenant. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Brown in 1952. They resided in Silver Spring, Maryland in a home he built in 1956. He and Betty continued living in that home until their deaths. Ed was the founder of Blick Builders, and constructed numerous homes in the Potomac, Rockville, and Silver Spring, MD areas. After 25 years building houses, in 1978 Ed retired from the building business and attended graduate and then law school. He ultimately earned his CPA, MBA and Law degree. He passed the Bar exams in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. Ed began his law career in Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as an Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. While there, he enjoyed camping and hiking in the wilderness. He transferred to San Francisco, then Cleveland, Ohio, before finally returning home to Maryland and ultimately accepting a position in the DC Government Office of Tax & Revenue as Assistant General Counsel. He reluctantly retired at the age of 90. Ed will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
