EDWARD R. CHEEK (Age 79)  
On August 2, 2011 at his home in Alexandria, VA. Born in Durham, NC, the youngest of three sons of Luther and Hulda Cheek, he graduated from Durham High School in 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force until 1975. After his Air Force career, he was involved in the State Department overseas construction and security issues. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics at the University of Nebraska in Omaha (Mavericks). He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; sons, Michael (Marie) and Steve; daughter-in-law, Denise; brother, Jack (Carrie Lee) from Durham, NC; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glen; sister-in-law, Ginny; and son, Douglas. Mr. Cheek has participated in civic and Masonic affairs for a number of years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302. Visitation including a Legion of Honor Green Coat ceremony is from Noon to 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service and a Masonic ceremony, Lodge #353 beginning at 1 p.m. Burial in North Carolina at a later date.  www.everlyfuneralhomes.com
