Ed was a good friend (suitemate actually) from Graduate School days in Bologna, and we stayed in touch off and on during our shared careers in the Foreign Service, although we never served together in the same posting, and until his passing in our retirement years in Maryland, befoe the Sacchets moved to Florida Now I stay in touch with Ed, indirectly of course, through his lovely wife Liz, still living in Florida, but in new "digs" for folks our age. Liz, we so much appreciated your Christmas card, especially as they are so rare these days, and Giorgina and I reply herewith along with our warmest greetings...and yes, we are off to Italy (Rome and the Dolomites...where I often think of Ed in this his family's native roots. All love, Lewis and Giorgina Murray

Ed was such a good flat mate in Bologna, some sixty years ago. If i can remember him so well, he was something special....we were "assigned" to each other, with two other students, one a German and the other an Italian...all great mates, much thanks to Ed's expansive personality. I recall this guy with great fondness. Lewis Murra

Dear Lizzie....As I am not sure how to reach you, now being in Rome, I am using this venue to express to you and family how sorry I was to learn today via the SAIS bulletin about Ed's passing. I shall always remember that happy guy I shared a flat with in Bologna during our year at the Bologna Center in 1958-59, and I always enjoyed our meetings from time to time after in the Foreign Service. I think we last were together when you both came to dinner at our house in Chevy Chase some few years ago...My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I shall always remember Ed as a good man and a good friend. As ever, Lewis Murray (and Giorgina joins me in this expression.
