Edward Taptich Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Paul Taptich of Haymarket, Virginia, on February 1, 2025. Ed was born on August 2, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Frances Taptich and Mary Burick Taptich.

Ed is survived by his loving partner of 27 years, Sharon Gough. Ed embraced Sharon's children Patricia, Thomas and Christopher Gough, and her grandchildren, Alexander, Madison and Nicholas Gough. Ed is also survived by his former wife of 35 years, Betty, and was the proud father of their three children, Justin (Elizabeth) Taptich, Adrienne Taptich Edisis, and Brian (Rachel) Taptich, and grandfather to grandchildren Molly, Charlotte, Tamsyn and Finley Taptich, and Nathaniel and Aaron Edisis.

Ed attended Georgetown University, both undergraduate and law schools (B.A., 1960; LL.B., 1963), and was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. During his 30+ years specializing in telecommunications law, Ed was a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, the Supreme Court bar, as well as the bars of the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Fourth, Ninth and District of Columbia Circuits.

After retiring in 1997, Ed and Sharon moved to a farmstead near Sperryville, Virginia, where he enjoyed making furniture, gardening, traveling and golf. Ed was a tireless source of energy and optimism, who will be fondly remembered for his kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Private Service.
