EDWIN J. SCHAFER

COL, U.S. Army (Ret.)

Edwin J. Schafer, of Potomac Falls, VA, passed away on August 25, 2022 at the age of 94. He was a long-time resident of Great Falls, VA. He was born in Chicago, IL. His family moved to Atlanta, GA several years later. He graduated from Fordham University in New York. He was called to active duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving with the 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Upon his return from Korea, he attended Georgetown University Law School where he earned a Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees. After a brief period of private law practice, he spent the majority of his professional career employed by the Federal Communications Commission as an attorney. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Colonel of Field Artillery.

His spouse, Rosemary, predeceased him. He is survived by his sons Matthew (Lisa), Andrew (Kim), Peter, and James (Jennifer) as well daughters Clare and Anne (Chip); grandsons Matthew, Joseph, Phillip, John, Daniel, Michael, and Nicholas; and granddaughters Rosemary and Caroline. He is also survived by his brother John.

Interment planned for February 10, 2023 at 12:45 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Money and King Funeral Home.
