Eileen Dermody Obituary



DERMODY EILEEN DONOGHUE DERMODY (Age 48) Of Seattle, Washington, passed away on December 28, 2009 after a nearly two year battle with ovarian cancer. Born December 30, 1960 in Bethesda, MD., she was the daughter of John and Evelyn Donoghue. She attended parochial and public schools in Bethesda, graduating from Walt Whitman High School in 1979. She then attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, having earned a degree in history. Her junior year of college was spent at the University of Oregon as an exchange student. While at U-Mass, she founded the Zulu Women''s Ultimate Frisbee team which won a national championship. She earned a masters of public administration at the University of Washington, Seattle. She was a long-time employee of Group Health in Seattle, where she served in many capacities. She was working as a lien consultant when she became ill. Eileen is survived by her husband, Grant of Seattle; parents, John and Evelyn of Chevy Chase, MD; siblings, John (Patty O''Brien and daughter, Loretta), Paul (Liz and sons, Bruce and Mark), Donald (Catherine and daughters, Eileen and Amanda) and Joan Donoghue (Tommy Hannigan); many friends and relatives. Eileen was laid to rest on December 30 at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, at St. Bartholomew''s Catholic Church, 6900 River Road, Bethesda, MD. Remembrances may be made to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th St., NW, Suite 1190, Washington, DC 20006.
