Evan James Vaughan Jr.

Capt. Evan James Vaughan Jr, passed away in September of 2025.
Evan, called Jim by his family and friends, was the son of Evan James and Margaret Vaughan. He was a career naval officer.
Jim was a proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy and went from there straight to flight training. He loved the Navy and always felt privileged to be part of it. A Navy life was what he wanted and he was grateful that he got to live it. Captain Vaughan earned 7 medals, 4 citations and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Jim served the Navy in many ways, but his most memorial times were as a pilot in three squadrons, the last of which he commanded. Along with serving on two aircraft carriers. One as a Flag Lieutenant and the other as the Navigator of the ship. Jim also had the good fortune to be assigned to the naval staff in London. Both his wife and his favorite deployment. Jim had two tours in Washington, DC where he was stationed at the Pentagon.
After retiring from the Navy Jim enjoyed spending time at "the lake" cottage with his family, early morning walks, watching British TV mysteries, playing Bridge, and solving crossword puzzles. But watching sports on TV, especially college football, was his favorite pastime.
Jim was always an inveterate reader and in his prime was known to love to dance and be very good at it.
Jim was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of over 60 years Mary Francis "Sis" and by his beloved youngest child. He is survived by three children and their spouses, as well as five grandchildren, all who he loved and who loved him.
A funeral service and internment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
