FRANCINE GOLDBERG Obituary

FRANCINE FINE GOLDBERG
Fran Fine Goldberg passed away on January 31, 2018 at the age of 68, after a multi-year battle with cancer. She was born on May 8, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, to Solomon Fine and Sylvia Reiter. Fran graduated with highest honors from Vassar in May, 1970, with a degree in Mathematics. After marrying in June of 1970, Fran and husband, Michael moved to San Francisco, where Fran pursued an MS in Engineering and Computer Science from Berkley, and later a job at Pacific Gas & Electric, programming in FORTRAN and COBOL. Upon returning from the West Coast, Fran took a position at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Bethesda, Maryland, where she worked for the next 39 years in the areas of IT infrastructure and strategic planning. Fran was consistently recognized for outstanding performance, including receiving the NRC's Meritorious Service Award. She retired in 2015 as a member of the Senior Executive Service. She leaves behind her husband, Michael, son, David (wife Maricor Santiago), two grandsons, Joshua (six) and Noah (six months), and her sister-in-law, Ceil Goldberg. A memorial service will be held in March.www.sagelbloomfield.com

I was so incredibly sad to hear about Fran's passing. She was a dedicated worker who believed in doing the right thing. She was also a force of nature that never tired of fighting the good fight! She was so very happy when her grandson was born - she just lit up when she talked about him! I extend my deepest sympathies to her family.

My sincere condolences for your loss. I interacted with Fran from time-to-time at NRC on various aspects of performance management. Fran was a smart, hard-working, and dedicated person. I learned a lot during our interactions. I appreciated the way she listened to other views, while balancing directness and humor in resolving issues.

I am so sorry for your loss. Fran was a grand lady, smart, hard-working and always beautifully dressed! I very much enjoyed her as a colleague. I am so sorry that she passed so soon and did not get a chance to enjoy her much-deserved retirement from the NRC.

I was absolutely shocked to learn of Fran's passing. This weekend I was just pondering if she was enjoying her retirement, as I initiate my own. I had the pleasure to work with her a few years before she retired and enjoyed getting to know her - she was always helpful in finding solutions that would work for all and had some great ideas. Please accept my sincere condolences.

To Fran's Family. I worked with Fran for many, many years at the NRC. Sometimes she was my supervisor, other times my co-worker and my last year a member of a task force on strategic planning. I am very sad for your loss. She loved her job. I am so glad she was able to spend her retirement with her family whom she adored. Peace and comfort to those left behind.

Dear Goldberg family. I am sorry that Fran is no longer with you. I worked a tiny bit with Fran and always felt she was the kind of person you could look forward to talking to. She found ways to make things work for you, no matter how complicated the process was. She always listened. I didn't know Fran was so accomplished, but now I understand why she was a manager in OIS. I'm also a UC graduate who even studied some of the same subjects, albeit 13 years later than she did, so I can appreciate she must have been a pioneer given the timeframe she was working on her MS. I wish you all comfort and peace.

So sorry for your loss. Fran was my division director at NRC, and always had a smile and tried to look out for others. She will be missed.
