FRANCINE GAIL ROSENFELD

Surrounded by the family she loved, Francine Rosenfeld left this world on Friday, July 29, 2022 after months of battling an aggressive form of cancer. The child of Fred and Lillian Greenstein, she was born in the Bronx, NY in 1941 and moved with her family to Central New Jersey several years later, ultimately settling in Northern Virginia. She received a B.A. in Sociology from Upsala College in 1963 and a Master's Degree in Social Work from The Catholic University of America in 1973.



As a professional, she had an exemplary career across various areas of social work, including seven years of service as Child Protective Services Supervisor for the City of Alexandria, Virginia and over thirty years in the private practice of clinical social work. She was regarded by her colleagues as among the best and most skilled social work practitioners, applying the highest ethical standards of practice to the care of individuals and couples.



Outside her professional life, she had multiple interests which she pursued with unfailing talent and enthusiasm. She was an accomplished jewelry maker, gardener and flower arranger, decorator, gourmet cook, and avid reader and book club member, and was active in many social causes, including women's rights issues. But her greatest skills were interpersonal: she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many people, known and beloved for her kindness, empathy, and generosity. In 1979 she met her husband, Matias Travieso-Diaz, and together they enjoyed, over four decades, the pleasures of good music, arts, theater, fine dining, and travel.



She is survived by her husband; their daughter Anastasia; her brother Michael Greenstein and sister-in-law Roxanne Greenstein; her nieces Rose and Eve and their children; plus other close relatives and a multitude of friends, all of whom miss her greatly.



Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
