Frank Axtens Obituary



AXTENS FRANK W.B. AXTENS (Age 80) Col. US Army (Ret.) Died at Inova Fairfax Hospital on August 10, 2009. He was a resident of Reston VA for over 30 years. Born in New Haven, CT on January 7, 1929, Col. Axtens graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1951. Short thereafter he joined the US Army and served for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and one as commanding officer of a medical supply base in Germany. His last active post from which he retired in 1983 was at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. After retirement from the Army in 1983, he began volunteering at various recreation centers in Fairfax County, VA. Subsequently, becoming employed at the Fairfax County Park Authority (Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services) where he worked for 15 years. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 8, at 3 p.m. Those wishing to attend should arrive at the administrative office at 2:30 p.m. www.fmfh.com
