FRED GORDIN

FRED M. GORDIN, MD, MACP  
Of Rockville, MD died March 18, 2018,after a long illness. He died peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by family members. He was the husband of Anne Willoughby and the father of Jonathan and Dana Gordin. He was the brother of Richard Gordin and brother-in-law of Anna Gordin. He was the fortunate member of a large extended family from the immediate Washington, DC area as well as from Texas, New York, California, South Carolina, and Connecticut.He was Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Washington Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at George Washington University. He participated in significant roles in HIV and TB research and care for more than three decades assisted by many talented and dedicated colleagues at the VA and many colleagues in the US and around the world. His work produced information that has improved the health and quality of life of many persons with tuberculosis and HIV. His funeral was held March 20, 2018 at Norbeck Memorial Park in Olney, MD by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home of Silver Spring, MD.Contributions in memory of Dr. Gordin and his leadership work in infectious diseases may be made to the Fred Gordin INSIGHT Memorial Fund.
