Fred Kahn Obituary

Fred A. Kahn, of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Mei-yu Kahn (nee Chow); loving daughter, Anna (Harry) Hogenkamp; caring grandchildren, Jacob Hogenkamp, and Elizabeth Hogenkamp; beloved great grandson Grayson Canizalez-Hogenkamp; and caring cousins, Renee Kahn, and Abby Kahn. He was predeceased by his parents, Max and Selma Kahn.
Fred Kahn was beloved by his family. Fred's life was defined by intellect, optimism, and devotion to family. He will be remembered for his many accomplishments.
Fred was a child Holocaust survivor near Wiesbaden, Germany. He immigrated to the United States as a young man and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. He attended the University of Maryland and there developed the idea of the televised presidential debates. Continuing his education, he became a Woodrow Wilson Scholar at Johns Hopkins SAIS majoring in African Studies. Fred went on to have a career as an economist for the US Labor Department. After retiring he enjoyed time with his family and pursued his interest in studying all aspects of the Holocaust. In later years he volunteered at the US Holocaust Museum where he enjoyed sharing his experiences as a child survivor. Fred loved recounting the stories of his remarkable life emphasizing the importance of love, gratitude and humanity.
Services are private. Please omit flowers. Contributions in his memory may be sent to the US Holocaust Museum, online at ushmm.org.
