FRED LOWERY Obituary

Fred T. Lowery   (Age 92)   Major, US Army (Retired)
Passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019. Fred was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Harper High School and attended the University of Chicago. Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army because he wanted to serve his country. While doing so, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne and 33rd Infantry divisions. Fred fought in World War II and the Korean War. He loved his country and the military, and never faltered in that loyalty. Fred was a founding sponsor of the National Museum, U.S. Army. He went on to serve with DIA and subsequently joined the CIA working on special projects that supported our national security. Because of a particular interest in the value of early childhood education, he built two private preschools in Burke, VA and enjoyed a 40 year career working with children and their parents, even at 92 years of age. Fred lost one of his children, Patricia Lowery, early on but is survived by seven other children, Fred Lowery, Jr., Timothy Lowery, Cynthia Mahler, Lawrence Lowery, Deborah Street, John Lowery and Joseph Lowery, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister, Carol Kearney, and a host of other relatives and special friends that he loved as well. Fred's 92 years held purpose and meaning and he genuinely enjoyed a life well lived. He will be missed and remembered by all who loved him. A memorial service will take place at the Church of the Nativity, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015 on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11 a.m. Internment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Museum of the U.S. Army, Autism Speaks, or a charity of your choice.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Fred's passing. I have so many fond memories involving Uncle Fred-the Lowery boys singing, summers in Delevan Wisconsin and your Dad taking the cousins on endless boat rides, His acting as tour guide to Washington when we were kids, and doing the same for my children. I wish I could be there, but because of the weather in Chicago, I could not get a flight. You all have my sincere sympathies.
