GARY WILLIAM SHERFEY
On Monday, February 27, 2023, Gary William Sherfey, age 76, passed away peacefully after a short and sudden battle with cancer with his family and friends by his side. He was born on February 13, 1947 in Washington, DC and grew up in Annandale, VA. where he graduated from Annandale High School. He then went on to get his degree in Sociology & Political Science at Middle Tennessee State University in 1970, and then joined the USMCR. Once finished with his 6 months of active duty, he began his career at Annandale Florist where he continued the family business for the next 41 years before retiring in 2012. After retiring he continued to be actively involved in Annandale United Methodist Church with mission trips, feeding the hungry and homeless, Stephen Ministry and countless activities. He loved to play golf, go to the beach, meet up with friends for dinner and watch his grandkids play sports just to name a few.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia Sherfey; two sons, Brian (Emily), Kevin (Regan), nine grandchildren, Kayla (Tim), Andy, Jonny (Jordan), Colin, Mackenzie, Ryan, Jack, Meredith, Landon; and four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anthony, Juliana, Jameson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond, and mother and father, Mabel and Gilbert.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA. with a church service being held Wednesday March 8 at 11 a.m. at Annandale United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations can be made to Annandale United Methodist Church or First Tee of Greater Washington, DC.
