Geraldine Chapman Obituary



CHAPMAN GERALDINE STRALEY CHAPMAN MANAGEMENT ANALYST Geraldine "Gerry" Straley Chapman was born in San Diego, California, on June 28, l938. She lost a short but courageous battle with cancer on May 23, 2010 at age 71. She graduated from Ottumwa Iowa High School in l956 and was hired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a stenographer in the Crime Records Section. She worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of Defense in various positions - Assistant Secretary of Defense Legislative Affairs, Health and Medical, and Installation and Logistics. A Presidential Board - Permanent Joint Board on Defense, Canada-United States. In the Army she worked for the US Army Security Agency Liaison Office in the Pentagon, and was the Chief of the Statistical Clearance Division. In Europe, she worked for the Defense Communications Agency (Europe) and the US Army 2d Support Command, in Stuttgart, Germany. She was an Assistant to the Military Construction Advisor, Naval Facilities Engineering Command in procuring Navy military construction projects. She dealt with the Senate and House Armed Services and Appropriations Committees. She retired in l99l from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Family Housing Division as a Management Analyst. She is survived by her husband Cliff of 52 years. She has two daughters. Theresa Shaeffer (Christopher) with grandson Jeremiah Joseph, and granddaughter Veronica Rachel of Paso Robles, CA. Cynthia DePoy (Brian) with granddaughter Addison Reese and identical twin grandsons Hudson Chapman and Bryson Grant of Bealeton, VA. She is survived by a brother John G. Straley of Freehold, NJ. Her parents Arthur G. Straley and Josephine C. Straley preceded her in death. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA. She will be inurned in Arlington National Cemetery, 11 a.m. July 7, 2010.

I worked with Gerry in DOD Legislative Affairs. She was a hard working, very pleasant and caring person. Her family was very special to her, and I trust they will find comfort remembering her love.
