GERALDINE GRIGGS Obituary

GERALDINE GLADYS GRIGGS
To the great loss and sorrow of many who knew and loved her, Geraldine Gladys Griggs departed this life on March 15, 2013, after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's.  Gerry leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and good cheer. Those in the nation's capital knew her as a loyal and long-tenured federal employee in the personnel office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior; many in the Northern Neck enjoyed her friendship in her and Tex's retirement home on Bridge Creek, and after moving to Richmond, she was a great source of love and comfort for family and friends alike.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Carroll "Tex" Griggs, her daughter Judy Brunson and her husband, William, and her stepdaughter Debby Halling. Gerry is also survived by her grandchildren, including Jenifer Wilson and her husband Lance, Lori Brunson, Sandra Brown and her husband Michael, Travis Halling, and Angela Halling. In addition, she also enjoyed and loved her great-grandchildren Emily Brunson, Ian Wilson, and Alexandra Wilson.  Gerry also leaves behind her brother Bill Moran and his wife Clarice, her sister Barbara Cranford, brother Larry Fisher and his wife Kathy, brother James Moran, sister Patricia Kendrick and her husband Doug, and her brother Michel Ridgely. Gerry's viewing will be held Tuesday, March 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., and her memorial service on Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Both will be hosted by Woody's Funeral Home, at 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Virginia. She will be interred at the Virginia State Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Virginia. Her family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Greater Richmond Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

We were privileged to know sweet Gerry as our next-door neighbor for almost 8 years. Despite her long struggle with illness, she always had a wide, wonderful, smile and some caring words for her neighbors. It's important to express just how much her neighbors will miss her. Although we didn't know her in her prime, it was easy to see what a wonderful lady she was. We send our warmest wishes to Tex, Judy, and the entire family. You all did such a wonderful job of caring for her and supporting her!
